Photon Mode, as it turns out, was not merely killing Kaito slowly; rather, any who attempted to use it before him turned out not to be strong enough for the 'virus' to take effect.

When the pains stopped after his duel against Faker, he thought it was over with. In reality, the majority of the internal changes that needed to be in place for the remaining alterations were now complete; while he technically has the organs of a human being, they could swap purposes, at the most opportune moment, for those of the Barians.

As his skin lightened to white, he mistook it for a human skin disorder--he continued with his work in helping Yuuma, and covered what he could. The face was the last to change, during the trip to China...

And that is where it went horribly wrong.

Mid-duel, Photon Mode's 'viral' effects would suddenly pick up the pace when his Galaxy Eyes Dragon was sealed off--quite suddenly a number of changes would spark, causing his body to lock and Kaito himself to panic. He appears in the DR at this very moment in fact... Though he'll eventually calm.

At the moment, his organs are still human--he still needs to eat and sleep just as any other, however there's a snag. His teeth have fused together into a solid 'line' of bone, and his jaw has locked in place, forcing him to rely on a liquid or 'mashed' diet. His tongue has 'melted' to join with the bottom of his mouth, making speech impossible.

Other minor changes involve his eye no longer gaining a 'marker' in Photon Mode (Though he WILL avoid using it now), a point in his ears, and claws...

Along with, should any look close enough, a slight 'bump' above his heart where a crystal gem is forming.
